Can You Target Weight Loss To Upper Body Only?



I have an apple shaped body type and I am overweight on top and have very skinny legs and thighs. I have already lost weight but still have about 20 lbs to go.
I have a big stomach with no waistline, big back and big chest, and I have a fat face with a double chin :(
Is there anyway to target my weight loss to those areas only?
Especially important to me is loosing the fat cheeks and double chin, is there possibly an exercise I can do to loose that?

    When you do upper body muscle training you will burn more fat and calories in this area. Try lifting weights doing upper body exercises. Concentrate on using weights that are challenging, but not too heavy b/c you want to do higher number of quick reps to keep your heart rate up. Push ups and pull ups are great exercises, even if you must modify and do them on your knees and standing on a box/chair. Bottom line is the best way to decrease any area of fat is cardio with some weights specifically focused on those area. checkout the fitness magazine website they have specific things for specific body types.

    As you loose weight your body might seem to look disproportional; however, you can only loose fat from where you store fat. Abdominal fat is hard to loose especially if that is where your body likes to store fat. As for loosing the double chin, there are some facial yoga exercises you can do to help you on your way, but the chin leaves when the fat stores are depleted. Facial fat is quicker to respond to weight loss than abdominal fat so keep up with the fat % loss and you will see the results you want. Other options are surgery, but its better to work on your health than just on your looks. Good luck with your fitness!

    You cant do that unfortunately. Overall fat loss depends on genetics as to where your body tends to lose it first.
    Now, the good news. Based on what you told me you have what is called Android obesity, which is, extra body fat that tends to accumulate on the belly, arms, face, chest and back. Gynoid obesity is just the opposite, lower body legs, butt, thighs and hips. Android obesity normally affects men (thus the “beer belly” look) and is the most dangerous since there are extra concentrated fat deposits around the heart which can lead to heart disease……yah that’s not the good news, but HERE is the good news:
    since you are predetermined to gain weight first in those areas, you are most likely predetermined to LOSE fat in those areas first. SO, if you do 30 minutes of cardio daily (keeping your heart rate between 120 and 140) and cut back 500 calories from your diet a day, you will lose weight and most likely in the areas that affect you.
    So yes, cardio cardio cardio and abdominals to strengthen that area, create lean muscle and thus helping you lose more weight (muscle burns fat, you know)
