Has Anyone Had The Lasik Laser Eye Surgery?

My husband really wants to get it, I’m against it for myself. The thought of someone messing around with my eyes gives me the creeps and I wouldn’t want to risk it. How did your surgery turn out, was it worth the cost?

Well, I just had it on Tuesday. I’m the same way you are – I don’t want anyone messing with my eyes. I’d rather have something like a procedure to remove my third nipple than have someone messing with my eyes. Okay, maybe not that extreme, but I was pretty much dragged into my appointment.
My girlfriend insisted I do it, my eyes were constantly bothering me (dryness from contacts and winter) and she got sick of hearing me whine. I was extremely apprehensive leading up to, and the day of. They gave me Motrin and Valium to help with the procedure.
I won’t go into details, but it was uncomfortable. They really do mess with your eyes quite a bit (obviously), and I did more or less hate it. But afterwards, I realized that the whole thing took MAYBE 10 minutes, if that. Even with the pills, I felt discomfort… but you have to figure, 10 minutes of that for your vision back – no more glasses, contacts, rubbing your eyes, goop, dryness… and waking up being able to see without reaching for anything. The payoff is huge.
It’s been 5 days, and I’m putting eyedrops in my eyes every 4 hours or so. That’s not nearly the nuisance I thought it would be. I feel no pain and my vision is getting clearer every day.
I’m telling you, thus far, it’s been worth it and I definitely was against it. I paid $3800 for my surgery for Custom LASIK with no blades whatsoever in Omaha. A little pricey, I’m told, but right now I don’t care about the cost.
    p.s. I don’t have a third nipple.
p.p.s. If they give you a choice between the 5mg or the 10mg dose of Valium. TAKE 10! I didn’t!

I had the surgery in 1998, I still have 20/15 vision and saw clearly as soon as I got out of the chair. I never have regretted the surgery, and would do it again in a heartbeat. I had really thick glasses that cost me a fortune and my contact lens bill was through the roof. The first night after the 10 minute painless procedure is slightly uncomfortable, it feels like you have an eyelash in your eye. The eye heals rather quickly and as long as you don’t rub your eyes and use the antibiotic eye drops as prescribed you will be fine in a few days. It is absolutely worth it! I did it 9 years ago and technology is far better & safer now.( It is also cheaper now)

I had LASIK surgery last spring. It is pretty scary but it’s also amazing to never need to wear glasses again (except for reading glasses — which everyone needs when he gets to a certain age).
I was looking recently at some photos someone took of me a year and a half ago and was surprised to see myself wearing glasses! You forget that you ever needed them!
The only problem I have had is that my eyes tend to be very dry at times: I have had to use a LOT of drops since having this surgery.
Whether or not it is worth the money is a matter of personal priorities I guess.

I had Lasik almost seven years ago and I don’t regret it one bit. I suggest that your husband really research a good doctor though. Don’t go for the cheapest price! He should ask around and see who has gone to what doc and see if their results have been positive. It’s not something to rush into, but once you find a doctor who you feel confident in, it can be so freeing to not have glasses!

I had this great surgery o valentines two years ago, i think it was the most best 1000 bucks i had ever spent. I hated weraring glasses and it just wasent me, i look much better without them, as a matter of fact my sister had it done a week after i did, seeing that i am a complete woose and pain is not my game, but to tell you the absolute 100 % truth, it does not hurt one bit, they put so much numbing soultion on your eyes, no points or needles at all, and it’s just like eye drops, they are so gentle and theres really nothing to worry about. I think of all the money i have actually saved my self thru the years of more dr.’s visits, exam prices, glasses or contacts, eye drops, all the expenses associated with glasses or contacts, sweetie it’s so worth it. Any other q’s i will be more than happy to tell ya. I hope I have helped you Good Luck and go for it yourself

I had lasik 11 months ago. My husband bought it for me for Valentine’s Day, and it is the best present I could have asked for. One eye was fixed for near vision, one for far. The only time I have any trouble is if I am overly tired – then they don’t seem to focus as well together.
As for your husband, I would recommend he be checked out by a lasik center. Some people are not candidates for lasik, but if he is, I would definitely recommend it. There are absolutely no drawbacks to it – so much better than glasses or contacts.

I had the surgery 2 years ago. I remember that blood came out of my right eye during the surgery. & I had the worst headache after the surgery. & now I think am losing my eye sight again but I don’t know maybe this is happining because I spend all of my time infront of the computer. But to be honest I don’t regret having the surgery because I was sick of wearing glasses & contact lenses all the time.

I have several friends and family that have had the surgery and they all see 20/20 or 20/15. A friend of mine did it almost 6 years ago and she still has 20/15. I think it is very worth it and am planning on getting the surgery myself once I save up the $$$

well my dad had it , he loves not having to wear glasses the only downside is that your eyes dry out easily and you have to put in eye drops everyday for the rest of your life

Tell him to wait about another 5 years or so. They are still perfecting the procedure- and the first place that will be ready is Canada- they have been doing them there for about 20 years already. They have gone from the blade to the laser however, there have been some horrific side affects such as blindness and blind spots or floaters– the long term effects of this procedure has not come to pass since it has not been around long enough to see the full blown multitude of side affects yet—I had laser for retinal tears for retinal detachment 25 years ago- I have night blindness and ongoing visual changes along with tons of floaters-
tell him to wait- my daughter is and she’s a nurse.

Lasik and Laser eye surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and lasik surgery in India by a company called Forerunners Healthcare. The Price for dental and lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.
Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories.
They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.http://www.forerunnershealthcare.com
    Hope this helps.

It turned out perfect, there is no pain and only mild discomfort afterwards. As long as you can sleep after the surgery, you’ll be fine! It only goes wrong if you start freaking out and moving a lot, then the surgeon can’t help but screw up. If you can spend a little more, find the machine that can track smaller movements of your eye so that you don’t have to keep staring at a stupid red light.

Best money I ever spent. I see better than 20/20 now. I’ll admit you get a little spooked, but I had faith in my doctor after doing some research and seeing the thousands and thousands of operations he had already successfully performed.
Sounds kind of corny, but the thing I’m most grateful for is that if I ever have to jump out of bed in the middle of the night due to a fire or intruder, or get in a car accident, whatever… I don’t have to worry about being “blind’ because I couldn’t find my glasses fast enough or got them knocked off my face. Psycho thought, I know, but it really gives me a lot of comfort knowing I have the “security” of sight! Not to mention how pleasant it is to exercise without glasses slipping off my face or spending time outdoors without my contacts irritating my eyes.
I would do it again in a heartbeat.
