I was perscribed Dexedrine by my doctor for both anxiety and weight loss. I am depressed/anxious because I am overweight.
How good is Dexedrine for losing weight? Does it just reduce appetite? Does it help speed up metabolism?

Dexedrine is an amphetamine. It is primarily used for AHDH along with Ritalin and Benzedrine which are also amphetamines. All amphetamines increase your heartrate and blood pressure and decrease your appetite.
Although it is a stimulant, it can actually have a calming effect on your mood. While I think it’s a bit unusual to hear it being prescribed for anxiety, provided you stick with the recommended dosage, it’s a perfectly safe and very old and well studied drug.
That being said, losing weight via stimulants/appetite suppressants is less preferable than other prescriptions available such as Xenical and of course, good old fashion portion control and exercise.

I didn’t know Dexedrine was still being prescribed,especially for anxiety,yes you can lose weight on dexedrine it both suppresses the appetite and raises the metabolism.but as a central nervous center stimulator (speed) you could develop nervousness, paranoia,malnutrition calcium loose (bad teeth)more anxiety
I was prescribed Dexedrine for ADHD a couple years back…. Druggies refer to it as a form of “baby speed” so it really depends on your dosage…. I was put on 10 mg and kind of sort of abused it so I ended up telling them not to give me any more…
But anyway, it just picks you up a little bit, might give you a bit more motivation to get moving, that’s what I noticed from it anyway
